project whenever!
Well after 6 months of taking to bits and polishing, asking questions and getting brilliant answers from all on here thanks, I am finally ready to start putting the RRW back together!

Will put some more pics on as I get further into it. Am thinking about R1 back end as have managed to aquire the underseat cans for a stupidly low price!! just need to find the subframe to go with them now. Anyone know where i can get a link pipe made(nr Leicester pref) from rrw downpipes to meet the underseat cans. Going to get it to a rolling chasis first then get the engine back in, then attempt the wiring loom!!!!. Not to worried about the rear but have got to hide the front as I am not having a fairing, oh well thats why its called project whenever. it'll get done one day

Re: project whenever!
Yeah, lacquered ,polished ally always goes yellow and falls off. Use a good quality wax and you won't have to keep polishin it!

Re: project whenever!
got hold of a subframe the other day so couldn't resist having a mock up!!. Really pleased with the look just got to decide on the angle of the subframe to give enough clearance so the tyre does not bottom out on the exhausts

Got to engine in,then when downpipes on can think about getting the link pipe made, happy days

Re: project whenever!
Managed to find a cheap s/hand generator cover yesterday, will need to paint it black when it arrives, to match the other covers bit of luck should be on by next weekend.
At some point going to have to get it running! As the bike was incomplete when i bought it i don't know what's going to happen, hopefully no nasty noises.
It turns over ok with a socket on the end of the crank, speedo's only showing 11000 so fingers crossed

Re: project whenever!
Looks fantastic mate. What did you use to polish the frame triangles?
Before starting engine, remove plugs, put small amount of 3in1 or similar in, turn over by hand. Do same for 3 days, then turn over on button without starting. Spray a lot of WD40 in , repeat procedure. Than blow out all WD and fire it up !

Re: project whenever!
Cheers MW i'll give that a go. got to get some downpipes yet, think a mate of a mate's gonna sort me out. The frame triangles were a bitch to polish, used small coarse flap wheel in drill to start then med & fine after that 600/1200/2000 wet&dry then solvol. fiddly job to do

Yes please!!! Will have to talk to santa nicely. Got to sort top yolk/bars longer cables etc first. Did you fit them yourself? is it much of a job?

Re: project whenever!
Yea, i fitted them, drill out 6 rivvits, then it has 4 spot welds, grind them out, that will release the centre from the outer body, take the wrappings off the yamaha baffle.
Using the new baffle supplied in the kit, wrap the various layers round it, then trim, so its inline with the baffle ends.
Put that back into the outer section, making sure the baffle is pointing the right way, then rerivvit the end cap on.
Job done.
A couple of hours, should have it sorted.

Re: project whenever!
Done a bit more today, finally managed to get a genny cover, had to get a few scuffs out of it, then gave it a coat of paint, new gasket and its fitted. put the old (cleaned) vfr chain on and it lines up perfectly:) put a straight edge along it to check and it runs along it all the way down. Just need to get a new chain before it makes it maiden trip ( one day) Also have got some downpipes now, cleaned 'em up a bit and fitted, getting nearer to being ready to sort link pipe. As i'm using a 929 radiator had to make a spacer for the bottom bracket, just waiting to get rad back from a mate who's welding up the extra outlet ( that i dont need) Tried to put some pics on but photobucket not playing at the minute, will try later

Re: project whenever!
maybe a daft question but i'm trying to decide what battery i should buy for it? as its now got an R1 subframe on should i fit an R1 battery or stick with the blade battery if it will fit into the R1 subframe. Does the R1 battery have the same output as the blade? dont want to blow bulbs or ecu etc

Re: project whenever!
if its 12V it wont blow bulbs. you could stick a car battery on it and everything would be fine. just check the amp ratings of each battery and go for the one with the most for cranking power. dont know what benefits gel has over normal tho
